 Ridable Wind Directions: SW, W, NW
Go east on M29 / 23 Mile Rd. towards Algonac. Drive about 10 miles and look for the Harsens Island Ferry. $6 covers the round trip. Once off the ferry turn left and follow the winding road 10+ minutes. Look for the grassy launch in the middle of the cul-de-sac.
Scenario:
Big, shallow Muskamoot Bay, fantastic on SW and W. Good learning spot with forgiving depths and firm, sandy bottom. Sketchy Launch.
Local Knowledge:
Parking is technically prohibited here but tends to be tolerated during spring and fall - before Memorial Day and after Labor day.
During the summer many boats anchor in Muskamoot Bay and the 'no parking' rule is selectively enforced, sometimes tow trucks are involved. High winds and cooler temperatures usually keep the boaters away.
The rigging area is a grassy circle field within the cul-de-sac.
It is strongly recomended that you drift launch or get an assisted launch out in the water as the shore is a 15 foot wide rocky retaining wall that can be tricky and uncomfortabe to walk over. There are also power lines immediately downwind of the grassy circle which are desirable to avoid. If you are a newer kiter, take a little extra time and launch/land on the water.
The bay is about a mile + wide and almost entirely about 3.5' deep.
Firm sandy bottom with occasional schrapnel for the feet.
If you can get upwind you can get into some butter.
No facilities, party store 2 miles down the road.
